EM 630D Clerkship Applicants

To apply for an externship position for the 2024 630D visiting sub-internship season, applicants must complete both of the following:

Our Emergency Medicine rotation is in high demand at the beginning of the academic year (May to October). We encourage you to contact us at least three (3) months prior to your preferred start date because our clerkship tends to fill up far in advance.

Please note that between May and October, we generally only accept students who are planning to apply to our emergency medicine residency program. 

To apply

U.S. Applicants

  • Students who wish to rotate between May and September are required to enter your information using this form
    • Your top three preferred start dates (in order of preference).
    • Your curriculum vitae, including your USMLE Step 1 score and Core Clerkship grades.
    • The letter of intent to rotate at UCI ED.
    • The name and email address of your EM faculty advisor/mentor, or a faculty mentor who knows your career choice and can verify your goals and plans.
  • Apply to the UC Irvine School of Medicine's Student Affairs office using the AAMC's VLSO.
  • Per residency applications requirements, all rotating through the Emergency Medicine Department will need to fulfill the requirements below to be eligible for the residency program at UC Irvine (if the applicant is planning to apply to the residency program this year):
    • M.D. Applicant Board Scores: USMLE I and II Clinical Knowledge (CK) transcript
    • D.O. Applicant Board scores: COMPLEX-USA Level 1, COMPLEX-USA Level 2 Cognitive Evaluation (CE), and USMLE Step 2-CK transcripts (COMPLEX will not be considered in place of the USMLE Step 2-CK)
      • Step 2 scores generally must be available in ERAS by the end of January at the latest, earlier is better

International Applicants

International students must be enrolled in a medical school that has a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the UC Irvine School of Medicine. Send your application to our Medical Education Office (meded@hs.uci.edu).
