At UC Irvine, you will have the opportunity to work with world class faculty along with outstanding nursing and ancillary support staff. Throughout this rotation, you will be exposed to every facet of emergency medicine by caring for a diverse patient population indigent to Orange County.
You will take an active role in patient care, evaluating patients immediately as they present to the Emergency Department and following them throughout their ED course until disposition.
The emergency medicine clerkship consists of experiences in direct patient care of acutely ill patients, selected readings from an emergency medicine textbook, simulation cases,weekly resident conference, as well as dedicated student case conferences.
We implement interactive learning techniques including, team-based learning, flipped classroom, and gamification into all of our education sessions. Students will also participate in procedural training sessions including intubation, central lines, chest tubes, cricothyroidotomy, lumbar puncture, and ultrasound-guided peripheral IV placement.
